Wood Pellets Overview
Not all wood pellets are created equal
Most wood pellets on the market today qualify as "Premium" pellets, meaning that the ash content is less than 1%. While there are a number of good Premium wood pellets for sale, there are only a handful of exceptional "Super Premium" pellets (less than .5 % ash) available to consumers. SMRF is proud to offer two of the very best "Super Premium" wood pellets on the market. Okanagan pellets are 100% softwood from British Columbia, and Barefoot pellets are 100% hardwood from Pennsylvania. From the moment you open the bags of these Super Premium pellets, you'll see and feel the difference...clean, dense and consistent. But you'll truly appreciate the value of these pellets when you feel the heat output and see how little ash is left behind. You owe it to yourself to give these pellets a try.

Wood Pellet Facts
- Renewable, sustainable, and produced from 100% wood fiber made from compressed woodchips and sawdust.
- Wood pellets are carbon neutral. When burned, they emit the same amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) as is absorbed when a tree grows in the forest.
- During the pelletizing process, the wood's natural lignin creates a binding effect that holds the pellets together. There are no additives.
- Wood pellets are more dense, have less moisture, and produce more heat pound for pound compared to seasoned cordwood.
- Contrary to popular belief, a quality softwood pellet may actually produce more BTU's per pound than hardwood pellets, and produce less ash as well.
- Depending on the wood source, premium wood pellets will vary in length, color, and density.
- The Pellet Fuels Institute will be implementing a new Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QA/QC) program to assure a more standardized testing and reporting of wood pellet quality industry wide.
